Becker secures contract for two new BSH research vessels

BSH research vessels by Gondan Shipyard / Seaplace

Becker is supplying the complete steering systems for the two hydrographic research vessels WEGA and DENEB to the Spanish shipyard Astilleros Gondan S.A.; these vessels are currently being built for the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH).

The scope of supply comprises a Becker steering gear and the associated steering technology, forming a fully designed and coordinated manoeuvring system. The contract confirms Becker Marine Systems’ strategic approach: rather than offering individual components, Becker develops and supplies integrated manoeuvring systems in which the rudder, steering gear and engineering are optimally coordinated.

Thanks to this systems-based approach, customers benefit from:

  • a single point of contact
  • a dedicated engineering team
  • optimally coordinated interfaces
  • reduced project risks

“We are delighted with the trust placed in us by Astilleros Gondan and look forward to the successful implementation of this project. With this order, Becker Marine Systems is further expanding its position in the market for small and medium-sized specialised vessels. In future, the research vessels will undertake important tasks in maritime surveying, including wreck search and hydrography.”

(Tobias Haack, Managing Director of Becker Marine Systems)
