Specialised Becker Flap Rudders for Russian trawlers

In order to modernise the Russian fishing fleet it has been decided to build new fishing vessels at various shipyards in Russia within the next years. In this process Vyborg shipyard is building four new trawlers of ST-118L ship design – delivered by Skipsteknisk of Norway – for the Arkhangelsk Trawl Fleet. The Russian shipyard has placed orders with Becker Marine Systems for the delivery of a new flap rudder setup with a specialised trawler profile. The four heel-supported Becker Flap Rudders (SA-type) ordered by Vyborg will have a rudder area of 15.4 sqm each, offering excellent manoeuvrability in all areas of operations. Becker Marine Systems is proud to have been awarded the order and warmly welcome the promising strengthening of cooperation with Russian shipyards.

Onomichi Dockyard extends Becker Mewis Duct® order

Japanese Onomichi Dockyard, specialised in the construction of product tankers and bulk carriers, has extended its order for Becker’s well-proven energy-saving device, the Becker Mewis Duct®. Becker´s design team has developed a tailor-made design for an existing series of 60,000 dwt bulk carriers with a length of 195.0 m, a breadth of 32.3 m and a scantling draft of 13.0 m. The estimated energy savings are promising enough for Onomichi Dockyard to extend the current product order by four more Becker Mewis Ducts®.

CMA CGM orders ten more Becker Mewis Ducts® Twisted

French container shipping comany CMA CGM has recently retrofitted two Becker Mewis Ducts® Twisted on 11,388 TEU Andromeda class container ships. Becker´s well-proven energy-saving device for fast vessels combined with a new propeller design is part of an efficiency improvement program by CMA CGM. After the successful installation of the first two systems, the french owner has placed an order for the delivery of ten further Becker Mewis Ducts® Twisted to retrofit all sister vessels in order to complete the efficiency upgrade for the entire Andromeda class series of twelve ships.

Two Becker Schilling® Rudders ordered by IHC

Becker Marine Systems has won another order from Dutch shipyard IHC for two Becker Schilling® Rudders to be fitted to a 5,450 cbm Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) for sand and gravel applications. The order was Becker's first one in the new year and is a follow-up to a series of three orders placed by IHC in 2016. The TSHD vessel will be named "DC ORISANT" and is designed for DP2 class. Becker will deliver two 14 sqm Becker Schilling® Rudders with Becker's KSR King Support Rudder bearing system for reliable and sturdy manoeuvrability.

MESM (Bahri) orders Becker Mewis Duct® for VLCC

Mideast Ship Managment (MESM), a subsidiary of Bhari, has ordered a Becker Mewis Duct® for a 320 m long Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC). MESM is already operating several vessels fitted with Becker's energy-saving device. The ship is one of a series of VLCCs which will be fitted with Becker Mewis Ducts® in the near future. The Becker Mewis Duct® ordered by MESM will be approximately 6.50 meters in diameter and is going to be installed mid next year. Becker´s CFD calculations has shown very promising rates of energy savings for the equipped VLCC. This new order is another step of MESM to operate a fleet of more efficent and profitable vessels for environmentally-friendly operations.
